Hello World

Today's the day! Launch day, to be precise.

We're so excited to have a new platform to share insights, guidance, tips, content, resources, and even code, with the world. We'd like to thank you for participating in, and supporting, this service.

When programmers start a new project, the first lines of code we type are simply the words, "Hello world". If we can get these words to appear on screen, we know our journey of a thousand steps is well underway.

So we have plenty to say in the weeks and months to come. But today, our first topic is simply us saying, "hello world".

And since you've been kind enough to join us on this journey, how about telling us a bit about yourself. We've put together a quick, single question "getting to know you" poll on Slido. Just click this link or go to slido.com and enter code #3276225.

Demos & Deep Dives

Premium subscribers can attend regular webinars where we show prototype progress, and do deep dives into newsletter topics. They can also propose and vote on solution ideas, features, data, and prototypes, which we'll iteratively build and release to benefit the community. The premium webinar links are always included in these weekly newsletters.

This month's 30-minute webinar will be held on Tuesday August 23, at 11:00 EST/15:00 GMT. Details including attendee links are shown below (for premium subscribers).

Thanks & Recognition: the CC0 Climate Change Problem-Solution Respondents

When we began our climate change research project, we knew we needed to hear directly from individuals. We ended up speaking to, or surveying, numerous people between November 2019 and July 2020.

We first did a random survey of Canadian citizens using SurveyMonkey, to better understand the individual level of awareness of climate change action and the willingness and readiness to act.

This was followed by 30-minute problem-solution interviews with 110 Canadians across all provinces and territories. The people we interviewed consisted of officials from the three level of government, faith-based organizations, business, ordinary citizens and members of NGOs.

We performed video interviews with them using Zoom, during which we asked them to validate and rank a set of problem statements and then provide further detail on the reason for their chosen priorities.

You can read more about the initial research contributors (and all the other research contributors) at https://thanks.deploy.solutions/projects/climate-change-problem-solution-respondents/

Thank you so much to everyone who graciously took the time to give us your opinion on climate change actions!

How Can We Make OASIS Better?

We hope you love the content in this newsletter. It's a two way communication loop - your feedback helps us learn and grow.

So, if there's something you like (or don't like!), if you have an idea or suggestion, please provide feedback (link opens an external form on Asana). You can also reply back to this email.

This Week's Ask Us Anything

Ask us anything you like (well, related to climate change/software)! During our OASIS+ webinars, premium subscribers can up vote the questions. Next month we'll get back with our research and responses on the top questions!

To respond to our poll this week, just click this link or go to slido.com and enter code #3276225.

If you would like customized or involved research, or think we can contribute our software expertise to a climate change-related project or initiative you're working on, please get in touch.
